Born in Athens, Greece where she now lives with her husband and daughter. She works full time as a licensed psychologist, psychotherapist and family therapist in independent practice since 1998.

She is one of the three founders and scientific directors of the newly established ‘Training and Research Institute for Systemic Psychotherapy’, Athens, Greece.

Education and Training

After completing her first degree in psychology at the University of Athens, she studied at the University of Bath, U.K. (Dept. of Psychology/Social Sciences) where she received her Doctorate (PhD) in 1993. Her PhD thesis, titled Seeking evidence of inner consistency in persons’ accounts: Explorations in the area of AIDS was a study of personal narratives with an emphasis on qualitative methodology and clinical applications. While in the U.K. she trained in counseling (CAC). Upon returning to Greece, she trained as a systemic and family therapist at the Laboratory for the Study of Human Relations. She holds the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP) from the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP).

Work experience and Teaching

While in the UK she taught at the University of Bath as tutor (1989-1993). Upon returning to Greece she taught psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at various Colleges of higher education (LaVerne, University of Indianapolis, Athens) and delivered a number of seminars both in English and Greek. From 1998 to 2011, she worked as Trainer and Supervisor at the 4-year Program of Training in Systemic Therapy and Family Therapy at the Laboratory for the Study of Human Relations. She teaches “methods of qualitative research” at the ‘Masters in Counselling Psychology and Counselling’ at the University of Athens (2009-2012).

Publications

She is author of the book “The innocent language of our dreams” , and of two books for children “Chats with mum” and ‘Bigger chats with mum”. She is co-editor of two books on case presentations from a systemic perspective. She has published articles in scientific journals in English (Family Process, Journal of Family Therapy, Journal of Systemic Therapies, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy) and Greek (Psychology: The Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society, Metalogos: Systemic Approaches and Psychotherapy). She has presented her work at international conferences, and papers of hers have been published as book chapters.

Research interests

Her current interests are in the study of the narrative metaphor as applied to therapy, and with bridging the systemic approach with attachment theory and narrative practice. She is also interested in the development of qualitative methodology, and its applications in studying psychotherapy process and outcome. Her interests in the past included the applications of family therapy to chronic patients with HIV/AIDS, and the evolving relationship patterns of the Greek family.

She is a member of the Hellenic Psychological Society (ELPSE) (clinical and counselling section), the Association of Greek Psychologists (SEPS), the British Psychological Society (BPS), and the American Psychological Society (APA). She is also member of the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA), the Hellenic Association of Systemic Therapy (HELASYTH), and the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT).
